Choosing the Right Yoga Practice for You

Yoga is truly a journey of self-exploration, a path that leads you towards physical well-being and mental tranquillity. When you begin your yoga regime, it’s essential to practice with a specific intention in mind. Your intention can be an area of your life you wish to cultivate or improve. It may be to nurture more compassion, build physical strength, tone muscles, foster mindfulness, manage stress, alleviate pain, or any countless number of personal goals. By practicing yoga with intention, you imbue your time on the mat with purpose, giving each pose or sequence significance that transcends the physical act itself and resonates with your broader journey toward well-being and self-improvement. Remember, the purpose of yoga is not to achieve perfection, but to consistently progress and grow.

Your intention will also help you choose the style of yoga that’s right for you. In my classes, I focus on and integrate different styles of yoga into various formats: Mindful Vinyasa, Flow + Restore, Restorative Yin Yoga, Yin & Yang Yoga, Y6 Hot, Y6 Restore, and Mindful Meditation.

Reference the guide below to choose a yoga practice that will support your intention, visit my class schedule, and join me for a class in the upcoming weeks.

Mindful Vinyasa

Intention: Encourage Mindfulness, Develop Muscle Tone + Strength, Improve Flexibility, Relieve Stress, Increase Endurance and Stamina

What to Expect in This Class:

The Mindful Vinyasa class is a 60-minute session tailored for both beginners and intermediate yoga practitioners. This class harmonizes breath with movement, fostering a mindful flow that engages students on mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual dimensions. The emphasis lies in maintaining accurate alignment throughout each asana (posture), facilitating the body’s organic flow and promoting muscular toning and flexibility. The practice paces itself to allow time to slow down, focus inward, and meditate before transitioning through a series of postures. This meditative component enhances mental clarity and establishes a deeper connection with yourself, amplifying the transformative benefits of the sequence. The Mindful Vinyasa class serves as a stepping stone towards holistic self-improvement, aligning with the broader intentions of your yoga journey.

Flow + Restore

Intention: Encourage Mindfulness, Develop Muscle Tone, Improve Flexibility, Learn the Fundamental Yoga Basics, Relieve Stress

What to Expect in Class:

The Gentle Flow + Restore class is a soothing 60-minute session designed to accommodate beginners through intermediate yoga enthusiasts. This class employs the Vinyasa style, gently guiding you through a sequence of postures, starting with basic asanas and progressively introducing more challenging poses for those who wish to elevate their practice. The emphasis is on smooth, flowing movements synchronized with the breath, fostering a peaceful, meditative state. Towards the end of the class, restorative asanas are introduced to release tension and relax both the mind and body. The gentle release and restoration segment serves as a calming conclusion to your yoga journey, leaving you feeling balanced, rejuvenated, and deeply connected with your inner self. This class offers a beautiful blend of activation and relaxation, aligning perfectly with the broader intentions of your yoga practice.

Yin & Yang Yoga

Intention: Encourage Mindfulness, Develop Muscle Tone, Improve Flexibility, Open up the Body’s Flow of Energy, Increase Circulation, Relieve Stress

What to Expect in Class:

The Yin & Yang Yoga class is a balanced 60-minute session that caters to beginners as well as intermediate students. The session begins with a gentle flow incorporating sun salutations and a sequence of dynamic, active-standing poses. This initiates the ‘Yang’ component of the class, energizing and strengthening the muscular system. As the session progresses, the ‘Yin’ component is introduced. This part of the class is more passive, focusing on seated or reclined postures which are held for extended periods, typically 3-5 minutes. Yin practice aims to delve into the deeper layers of the physical body, targeting the connective tissues around the joints – the tendons, fascia, and ligaments. Holding poses for longer durations promotes enhanced circulation in the joints and fosters improved flexibility. Yin & Yang Yoga offers a comprehensive approach to your yoga journey, combining the active and passive elements of practice and aligning perfectly with the broader intentions of enhancing overall well-being.

Prenatal/Postnatal Yoga

What to Expect in Class:

Our Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga class is specifically tailored to support women during pregnancy and after delivery. The physical and emotional changes that occur during these phases can often be overwhelming, but yoga offers a powerful tool to harmoniously navigate this journey.

During pregnancy, our class focuses on gentle stretching, deep breathing, and nurturing relaxation techniques to relieve common discomforts and prepare the body for labor. Strength-building poses are incorporated to maintain flexibility and manage weight gain, while mindfulness techniques support emotional wellness and foster a deeper connection with the baby.

In the postnatal phase, the class shifts focus to recovery and rejuvenating the body post-delivery.
