Treat your skin to a smoothie spa. This Pomegranate Blueberry Smoothie, inspired by Little Spice Jar, is the perfect treat to help brighten and even out your skin tone. Loaded with antioxidants from blueberries and pomegranates, this new recipe is one of my favorite beauty pick-me-ups!

I wanted to come up with a skin rejuvenating smoothie that’s loaded with protein so that I can have it for breakfast after my morning run and yoga practice. And, I must say, this recipe doesn’t disappoint. It benefits from whole foods selected to boost and even skin tone for a healthy glow. As an added bonus, it tastes absolutely divine! with earthy tones of rolled oats for added protein!

So guys, here is my version of the perfect youthful skin smoothie. Vegan, gluten-free as well! Cheers!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 medium organic banana
  • 1 cup organic baby kale
  • 1 cup organic baby spinach
  • 1 cup organic pomegranate seeds
  • ½ cup organic rolled oats (gluten-free options are available at Trader Joe’s)
  • ½ cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • ½ cup water or ice cubes
  • chia or flaxseeds (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Blend everything together until you reach a smoothie consistency.  Garnish with chia or flaxseeds. When detoxing organic produce is recommended.

Each ingredient holds key value in this Pomegranate Blueberry Smoothie:

Blueberries are rich in antioxidants and will help eliminate the body of toxins and clear up acne. As an added bonus, they help prevent premature aging.

Kale is rich in vitamin K and antioxidants. With anti-inflammatory benefits, it helps you decrease bloating which helps prevent puffiness under the eyes and in the face. As an added bonus, it also has sulfur content which helps reduce redness and increases blood circulation in the body.

Spinach is rich in antioxidants and nutrients like vitamin B, C, E, potassium, iron and magnesium.

Rolled Oats is rich in magnesium, calcium and B vitamins. Most importantly, it has three times the protein of brown rice with less starch and more fiber.  As an added bonus, it has properties to balance the skin’s PH, which can relieve itching and dry skin.

Pomegranates is rich in polyphenol antioxidants, which is used to fight off free radicals in the body and regulate blood flow in the skin. As and added bonus, a whole pomegranate a day or 8-ounce of juice will do wonders and give your cheeks a beautiful, rosy glow.
