What is the Craze?
Kale is the new spinach. It isn’t called a superfood for no reason. Packed with antioxidants, kale is full of vitamins, like: Vitamin A, K, B6, as well as niacin, riboflavin, thiamin, calcium, iron, protein, magnesium, and more. But why is it one of my go-to detox foods? It naturally detoxifies the body and keeps you feeling healthy and full of energy. When consumed, it creates enzymes to help your liver detoxify and cleanse.
Why a Smoothie not Juice?
Smoothies consist of the entire fruit or vegetable – skin and all. In its whole form, it contains all of the fiber. In the blending process, however, the fiber breaks down to a form to digest while still creating a slow, even release of nutrients into the blood stream, avoiding any sugar spikes. Ideal for a morning breakfast or for a mid-day snack, these homemade detox smoothies pack wholesome goodness to fuel and detox your way to a better, healthier you!
This week’s featured recipe is Kissed by Kale Smoothie! Antioxidant-packed, this smoothie replenishes and helps purge toxins from its various systems. Perk up your morning and kick it off strong with this baby!
- 1 cup baby kale
- 1/2 cup apple, sliced in 4 portions
- 1/2 cup celery, chopped
- 1 cup coconut water
- Blend everything together until you reach a smoothie consistency. When detoxing organic produce is recommended.
TIP OF THE DAY
Need an extra boost of nutrition to your smoothie. Try flax, hemp or chia seeds. For chia seeds, soaking it in a little water to make a gel will add a nice smooth consistency.
